Hi friend! Welcome to Morthunder, hopefully during your time here you feel inspired to create something that brings you happiness and encourages you to learn new skills!

Week 10: Tokyo Pt. 1

On Monday the 9th of March, we arrived in Tokyo, Japan!

Not much crafting to report, we are doing so many soul-filling activities. Our family is really bonding and God is downloading so many memories and lessons into my heart.

It’s massively cold, so I sent Ethan on an errand to find me some knitting needles and yarn so I could make the children some mittens since I discovered every store around here is sold out of mittens!

This week I made 1 pair of knitted mittens, 1 pair of crocheted mitten because Tilly stepped on my bamboo knitting needles and snapped them minutes after finishing her mittens. I finished a knitted beanie I started in Australia and I made another Neckerchief.

Highlights of the Trip:

Making my own set of chopsticks.

Learning how to use the subway system in Tokyo.

Experiencing the kids’ personalities full on because regular life responsibilities are put on hold and we can just BE together.

Hot/Cold vending machines! So fun!!

Cuddling baby pigs with the kids.

I was honestly so relaxed I found myself irrevocably inspired by pretty much everything. I collected so many photographs and so many ideas.

The architecture & homes were so incredibly cool, you could make an 8 minute compilation video of me going “wooow!!” if someone had been recording me the whole trip.

We spent a day in Koto, which completely filled my soul; You gotta love a city that injects meaning and utility into every aspect of their decorations and every day structures. Ethan bought me a beautiful 1969 Hermes watch at a very special watch shop. I describe the watch shop as special as he had bought himself a watch at the same shop merely two days prior and had a really incredible first hand experience of the incredible hospitality of the Japanese.

Going into this trip I knew that a main focal point was getting Ethan a vintage Omega watch to celebrate his 30th birthday, so when he surprised me with a watch from the same store, I was extremely touched. He was so enthusiastic about me picking out something that was unique and very difficult to find anywhere else, this watch will not only show me the time for decades to come, it will also serve as a reminder of just how much it pleases Ethan to see me happy.

These pictures barely scratch the surface of all we saw.

I'll add more to this post in the next few weeks but it’s currently 10:33pm and I need to wake up at 3:30am to get ready for a taxi ride to the airport. Our flight leaves at 6:50am.

Xx,

Morgan
